Steak 'n Shake is a fast casual, classic
American diner restaurant. They specialize in burgers and milkshakes. The
restaurant has been in business for many years since opening in the United
States over 80 years ago. Steak n Shake began in business in the Midwest part
of the US. They now operate many restaurants throughout the states and
internationally, such as in the Middle East.
Steak 'n Shake once provided full table service
at their restaurants. Now they offer self-service kiosks that essentially
replace servers. This was a bit surprising after returning to steak n shake
years later to learn this new self-service system was put into place. It may be
more challenging for those who do not like this type of technology but instead
would prefer a server taking the order. It was a nice experience ordering
from the kiosk. It was simple enough, and the order does not take too long compared
to the drive-through.
The restaurant has a unique feel upon entering
the restaurant. The restaurant has a unique retro diner style with comfortable
table booths and bar-style seating.
Menu
Steak 'n Shake offers a wide selection of
burgers and milkshakes from their menu. They have steakburger combos and burger
meal deals. They also offer tasty sides such as chili, cheese fries, and their
classic fries. In addition to the burgers and fries, milkshakes are a popular
menu item. They offer many different types of milkshakes, including the classic
and specialty milkshakes.
Drinks
Classic Water with Ice & Lemonade
Soda
Most restaurants do offer water. It is a
popular drink option when ordering a drink at a restaurant. A wedge of lemon
with water is also ordered quite frequently. Lemon water is a refreshing drink
while enjoying a full-course meal. Each time I visit a restaurant, I order or
get water with ice. Water is the classic drink that truly helps to wash down
the food.
At the self-serve coke machine, I chose
the water option with ice. At times I will opt for a soda drink and water. This
helps to dilute a sweet soda drink. I often do this at restaurants with
self-serve machines where you can choose any coke flavor and water option. This
helps to minimize the sweetness of soda drinks. It was nice to be able to
refill when I needed to. I picked lemonade and water as a refill option. This
was a refreshing blend.
Milkshake: Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Milkshake
Steak 'n Shake are well known for their
milkshakes. Much of their menu includes freshly made milkshakes. The milkshakes
are thick in texture and made with ice cream. There are various copycat steak n
shake milkshake recipes that can be found online. Recreating the creamy
milkshake at home is ideal if you cannot get to the restaurant. Simple to make
at home, the main ingredients involve milk, ice cream, syrup, and the desired
toppings.
They offer a variety of flavored
milkshakes, such as the common vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry shakes. Other
specialty milkshakes include Oreo and Snickers. The Reese's peanut butter
milkshake is blended with ice cream and pieces of Reese's peanut butter cup,
then topped with whipped cream, pieces of Reese's peanut butter, and a cherry.
This milkshake was filling. It is a great milkshake on its own or just as a
dessert but also pairs very well with burgers and fries. I enjoyed this Reese’s
milkshake. It was sweet, creamy, and a bit crunchy from the topping of reese's
chunks.
Meal
Steakburger and Fries
Burgers are very popular in the states. Fries are
also a popular side dish for burgers. The classic combination of burgers and
fries remains a popular dish in many diners and restaurants throughout the
United States. Steakburgers are gradually becoming a well-known burger.
Meats are the main difference between a steakburger
and a regular burger. Compared to the classic burger, steakburgers used steak
patties, while burgers used the classic beef patties. The steakburger tends to
be thicker than the burger. The cooking method for these burgers is cooked in
similar ways. They can be pan-fried or grilled.
Steak 'n Shake cooks their burgers on a
flat griddle. Upon entering the restaurant, you can see how the cooks cook the
burgers on the griddle. The burgers are pressed down with a spatula. This is
the smash cooking method.
Steak 'n Shake’s steakburger is a single
burger patty topped with cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onion. The
steakburger and fries were amazing. Both the burger and fries were a delicious
combination that was freshly made and tasted great.
Frisco Melt and Fries
The frisco melt is a type of burger and
sandwich melted into one. This is a unique burger blend combining a burger
patty and sandwich bread. Steak n’ Shake is one of the most popular restaurants
known for offering the frisco melt. They are known as the creators of the
burger sandwich. It is a burger sandwich that has been replicated various times
through copycat recipes available online. Frisco melt is a simple burger
sandwich to recreate at home if you cannot get to a Steak n’ Shake, as there
are numerous Frisco melt’s recipes that resemble and taste like the original
steak n shake burger sandwich.
Frisco melt is a grilled steak patties on
sourdough bread with melted American and Swiss cheese and frisco sauce. The
sauce on this burger sandwich makes this burger sandwich taste great. The
frisco sauce is a tasty combination of ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, Thousand
Island, and French dressing. Other ingredients can be added to this sauce, such
as Russian dressing.
Every time I visit Steak 'n Shake, I like to
order the frisco melt with fries. The frisco melt burger sandwich is often
served on a restaurant basket with a side of fries. Both the appetizing
sandwich burger and thin, lightly salted fries were delicious lunch meals.
Frisco melt is a classic and popular sandwich
choice at steak n' shake. The frisco melt pairs very well with the restaurant’s
warm crispy fries. After many years being on the menu, frisco melt still
remains a well-known option picked on the restaurant’s menu.

Thoughts
Steak 'n Shake is still in business and
functioning after many years. The quality of their burgers and shakes has
remained consistent over the years. Though it may not be everyone’s go-to
restaurant as there has been more competition in recent years, it is still a
nice spot for a classic steakburger and milkshake. The food may not arrive very
fast, but this is a place worth visiting for any of their flavor milkshakes or
tasty burgers.
