Grill Day: Grilled Corn

On this grill day, we grilled fresh corn on a small, homemade grill. The summer season is a great time for grilling outdoors. Corn is in season now and at a good price at the supermarket. You can get a good deal by buying a bunch of fresh corn now in the US.

Marinade

I made a homemade marinade for the corn. In a bowl, add the cut cilantro, garlic, and red onion and mix with apple cider vinegar, olive oil, salt, and pepper. It is good to marinate the food prior to cooking. For these corns, I marinated them after grilling. This is reverse marinating; though it is optional, you can marinate before and after grilling. This is a delicious homemade marinade sauce that gives the corn a burst of flavor.

Options for corn marinades and sauces
  • Garlic, lemon, and olive oil
  • Sweet chili, honey, chili powder, and lime juice
  • Mayonnaise, chili powder, and parmesan cheese

Homemade Grill

This homemade grill works as well as a store-bought grill from the store. I used charcoal for this grilling. This grill size is also a good size for grilling a few food items. It also heats up well, and the food gets cooked thoroughly.

The corn does not take very long to grill, though the grill requires time to heat up before grilling. Most of the corn was almost done cooking at this point.

The grilled corn with the marinade

Once the corns were grilled, I added my homemade marinade sauce to each corn with a cooking brush. The combination of the grilled fresh corn and the marinade sauce is a delightful side dish to enjoy on a summer day.
