Fried Okra

Fried okra is a classic side dish that is light and crispy. Seasoned fried okra also makes an appetizing appetizer or even a snack. Another great way to enjoy vegetables.

Fried okra is sliced okra coated in milk and flour, then deep-fried.
It is a popular side dish in southern and soul food cuisines in the states. Many southern food restaurants offer main course dishes with a side of sliced fried okra. Other numerous southern food buffets also include fried okra in their chafing dishes. Fried okra is very popular in southern cuisine in the United States, which encompasses the diverse traditional cuisine and culture of the south.

For okra, opt for fresh okra from the supermarket or from the farmer's market. Another good option is frozen okra. For this recipe, I used frozen cut okra. Frozen okra works fine for making fried okra.

Begin by defrosting the okra. In a bowl, add the flour, salt and pepper, then mix. In another bowl add the milk and egg, then whisk. Coat the okra in the egg mixture and then coat in the flour. Heat the oil in the saucepan. Place the batch of the okra in the saucepan. Flip the okra over. Cook the okra until golden brown. Use a spider strainer to remove the okra from the saucepan. Place the fried okra on a paper towel. This will help to absorb the excessive cooking oil. Add salt to taste.
