Jugo de Nopal {Cactus Juice}

Jugo de nopal is cactus juice. It is a slightly sweet, tasty juice. Nopal, also known as the prickly pear cactus, is a well-known staple in Mexican cuisine. There are numerous nopal food recipes. The nopales with eggs, nopales salad, and broiled nopales are a few popular dish choices in Mexico. There are also nopal drink recipes. The combination of nopal and pineapple creates a tasty balance and makes a healthy refreshment. It is nutritious and a great drink to make in the warmer climates.

This is a simple juice to make at home. I bought a small package of nopales from a Latin supermarket instead of picking from my garden. The pre-packaged nopales are already clean and peeled. This saves a bit more time not having to clean and remove spines from nopales. For pineapple, you can use canned or frozen pineapple. I used a cup of fresh pineapple and one fresh orange. Then, in a blender, combine the nopal, orange, pineapple and fresh water. Blend and process all the ingredients until smooth. The combination of nopal with pineapple and orange makes a healthy and refreshing drink.
