Bush Peas

Bush peas are peas that grow on bushes. Bush peas grow just a few feet tall without the need for a trellis or external support, as other peas do. Climbing peas, also known as vining peas, use the trellis, or support, to grow. The pea is a legume that grows inside the rounded edible pods of a pea plant. There are various pea varieties to grow in the garden. Great pea varieties to grow are garden and snow peas.

Origins & Cultivation

Peas are known to have originated in the Mediterranean region. The development of the pea is known to have developed in the Middle Eastern area. It is a legume that is now cultivated worldwide. For garden peas, China, the United States, and the United Kingdom are large producers of green peas.

Climate & Planting

Bush peas are cool-weather plants. They do well in cool climates and generally thrive in cooler temperatures. It is best to grow the peas in full sun, but they can also be planted in cool, partial shade.

For ground planting, plant the peas in well-drained soil. Bush peas can be grown on a trellis. A trellis is a garden structure that supports climbing plants and helps the plants grow vertically. Trellis can still be a benefit for bush peas, even though they do not need a trellis for support. The trellis will help keep the peas from dangling to the ground.

Food & Drinks

There are options available for buying green peas at the supermarket. Canned peas and frozen peas are good alternatives to fresh garden green peas. A few options for defrosting the peas are in the microwave, refrigerator, cooking the peas from frozen, or preferably what the package of peas indicates for proper thawing.

Peas are a popular and versatile legume that is consumed worldwide and is known for being affordable and healthy. Peas can be boiled, sauteed, or steamed. They make a great addition to vegetarian diets, and tasty drinks can be made from peas. The peas are used in various cuisines.
