Apple Dumplings

Ingredients Details

Water: filtered water
Sugar: brown sugar
Butter: unsalted butter
Cinnamon: ground cinnamon
Apples: Gala apples; alternative Granny Smooth apples or Honeycrisp
Pie crust: ready-to-bake pie crusts; alternative homemade crust
Egg: white or brown egg

Sauce
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Apples
  • 3 apples
  • ½ teaspoon butter
  • ½ teaspoon brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 4 ½ ready to bake pie crusts
  • 1 egg

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Sauce. In a saucepan, add the water, brown sugar, butter, and cinnamon. Then stir. Let it boil for 1-2 minutes until it begins to thicken. Set aside and let the sauce cool.

Apples. Peel the apples. Core the apples. Add butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon to the inside of each apple.

Pie crust. Roll out the pie crust. Cut 1.5-square sections. Place apples in the center of each pie crust section. Take the corner of the pie crust. Fold the corner to the top of the apple. Repeat for all corners of the pie crust. For each apple, use a teaspoon of sauce.

Baking pan. On a baking pan, add 3 tablespoons of sauce to the pan. Add the apples to the baking pan.

Egg wash. Beat one egg in a small bowl. Brush the egg mixture on each apple.

Bake. Bake for 1 hour until golden brown.
