Fall Pumpkin Smoothie

Fall is the perfect time for pumpkin recipes. It is also a great time of the year to indulge in fall pumpkin drinks. Pumpkin smoothie is a popular fall smoothie. It is a flavorful smoothie that is simple to make at home with tasty fall ingredients.

Why is pumpkin smoothie popular during the fall season?

Pumpkin smoothie is a seasonal smoothie that is a limited type of drink. Many coffee and smoothie shops across the states offer limited edition pumpkin smoothies. Though this type of smoothie can be made anytime throughout the year at home, there is something unique and special about the fall that ignites pumpkin, and we are drawn to pumpkin recipes during this season.

Spices such as cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice are popular spices to add to food and drinks. The added fall spices to the pumpkin smoothie enhance the taste and memory of the fall season.

There are other varieties of pumpkin smoothies to try out. If you want to switch things up, try a different type of pumpkin smoothie.

Pumpkin Puree & Pure Pumpkin

Pumpkin season is here; therefore, many tasty recipes call for mashed pumpkin. Canned pumpkin products are popular options during the fall season. Canned pumpkins typically have a great shelf life, are convenient, and taste delicious to use in recipes. Pumpkin puree and pure pumpkin canned products are essentially the same product. Though pumpkin canned product brands may vary in color, texture, and taste.

Trying out both pumpkin puree and pure pumpkin 

I tried this smoothie with both pumpkin puree and pure pumpkin. The first smoothie I made was with canned pure pumpkin; I used frozen bananas, plant milk, and fall spices. Then I blended all the ingredients. I proceeded to make the pumpkin smoothie again, using the same process with the only main difference being canned pumpkin puree.

This was interesting because I thought it would be exactly the same, but it was not in my experience. The main similarity between the two smoothies was the texture. They both were thick and dense.

However, there were some key differences. 


The taste and color were different. The smoothie made with pure pumpkin was delicious; the blend of fall flavors was present, and the color was a light shade of a cream brown color. On the contrary, with the pumpkin puree, it was tasty with a lighter combination of fall flavors. The tastes of bananas and pumpkin were not very balanced. The taste of bananas was strong, and the color was a lot darker, resembling a darker shade of brown. 

I enjoyed the pumpkin smoothie made with pure pumpkin better, though the brands of canned pumpkin and types of bananas and plant milk could make a difference in the taste and color of the smoothie. In addition, there are some canned pure pumpkin products that contain extra added ingredients besides pumpkin.

Pumpkin Smoothie

Pumpkin smoothie is a smoothie that is typically made with pumpkin puree, milk, banana, yogurt, and spices. Frozen bananas and yogurt are ingredients that help to thicken up the smoothie. Either frozen or ripe bananas can be used. Bananas do not need to be added or frozen; this is optional. Add bananas gives the smoothie a creamy and soft texture.

Either whole milk or any type of plant-based, non-dairy milk is great for this smoothie recipe. I often prefer and use non-dairy-based milk for many of the recipes I make. I often find plant milk tastes better and is thinner in texture compared to whole milk. There are many varieties of plant-based milk to purchase at the supermarket.

For the spices, pumpkin pie spice and cinnamon are common fall spices to add to pumpkin smoothies. You can opt to add or change up the spices, such as apple pie spice, nutmeg, or allspice.

Puree: canned pumpkin puree; alternatives: canned pure pumpkin or canned pumpkin pie filling
Yogurt: Vanilla Greek yogurt; alternative plain Greek yogurt  
Milk: plant-based milk; alternative whole milk 
Spices 
Cinnamon: ground cinnamon; alternative cinnamon extract

Instructions Details

Frozen banana. Freeze the bananas the night prior to preparing the smoothie.


Tip

Frozen bananas can be stored in the freezer with or without peel. Store the banana in a freezer-safe bag or freeze the bananas whole, if unpeeled.

Blender:

  1. Add the pumpkin puree.
  2. Add the yogurt.
  3. Add the sliced bananas.
  4. Add the milk.
  5. Add the ground cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice.
  6. Blend until smooth.

Store Fall Pumpkin Smoothie

Refrigerate the smoothie in the refrigerator for up to a day. Storing a smoothie for too many days can spoil the smoothie. To extend the shelf life of the smoothie store in the freezer in a freezer-safe container.

Thoughts 

Pumpkin smoothie is a very popular and delicious drink to recreate during the Fall. This smoothie combines the flavors and spices of the fall season. There are not many ingredients that go into making this smoothie. It is also simple to make at home, and it is one of my favorite smoothies.



Recipe 

Blender of 5 cups serving: Pumpkin Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1 can pumpkin puree 
  • 2 cups milk
  • 5.3 oz yogurt
  • 2 frozen bananas
  • 2 ½ teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 ½ teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
 
Instructions

Bananas. Freeze two bananas overnight. The following day, remove the bananas from the freezer. Defrost the bananas for a few minutes. Then peel and slice the bananas.

Blender. In a blender, add the pumpkin puree, milk, yogurt, sliced bananas, cinnamon, and pumpkin pie spice. Blend until smooth.
